Yay for Friends & Family!

Well, we’re back in Boise. We really enjoyed staying with our awesome friends Tanya & Crystal in Moscow and seeing some old friends. On Friday we headed down to McCall to meet my family for a Pru Crew gathering. We went out to pizza Friday night and on Saturday went to the lake to play on the beach and go sailing.
The sailing turned out to be more of an adventure than we bargained for. My dad, Seneca, and I went out on the catamaran and we were hauling ass across the lake. We came about and my dad decided to let Seneca try manning the big sail and rudders and steer the boat. Well, he wasn’t quite ready for that and when the wind picked up, we ended up tipping the whole boat over! We all got flung into the water (life jackets come in handy at times like this) and I gathered up the spilled stuff while a boat helped pull us up with a rope. The lake was freezing and we were in it for a while, so my lips started turning blue! My cousins Emily, Aaron, and Wes came out in the motor boat to take pictures of us, and when the sailboat was up and sailed off with my dad and Seneca on it, they picked me up and took me back to shore. So I got to go “swimming” in a quite unconventional way…
Sunday we celebrated my parents’ thirty years together as they renewed their vows. They re-enacted their wedding ceremony and read the same vows, and I was surprised at how much idealism they had 30 years ago. My parents wanted to change the world together, too. It inspired me to truly act on my dreams and, as Gandhi would say, “be the change” I hope to see in the world.
We camped in front of my family’s cabin for the weekend, and set up our new awning and a little camp. The awning is the length of the bus and attaches to the rain gutters along the side of it. It will be great for barter faires! It was a fun weekend despite being toppled into the lake, and it was great to spend time with my aunts & uncles, all my cousins, and my more immediate family, and of course, Seneca. There were 4 dogs at the reunion, so Juneau certainly enjoyed himself, too.
We’re now in Boise for a few days, where Sen will be able to work on the radiator and we’re getting the coolant system flushed. We’ll be restocking and re-packing, getting some work done, and plotting our next steps. Likely ahead: climbing Mt. Adams in Washington, visiting Portland and Eugene in Oregon, and (hopefully) going to a green building workshop at a sustainable community in Northern California. The adventure continues!

I enjoy reading about your adventure although I must confess a touch of envy at times. I’m sure you’ll treasure the memories for many years to come.
Although under completely different circumstances, I had the opportunity to watch my parents renew their vows several years ago and was awed by the depth of love they had for one another. What a wonderful experience.
