Mt. Assiniboine & The Journey Continues
Posted by megan under ultimate adventure 07 , veg-fueled travelsNo Comments
We went on an epic 5-day backpacking trip in Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park. It was a beautiful place, though quite crowded! We took 2 days to hike in (which is the only way besides helicopter to get into the park), one day of dayhiking around Mt. Assiniboine and Lake Magog, and 2 days to hike out. While we were in the park we hiked up to “The Nublet” which was a mountain with a great view of Assiniboine and the surrounding lakes. Then we hiked to Wonder Pass lookout for a view of the other side of Assiniboine. Assiniboine is called the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies, and it definitely fits the bill! It towers above the surrounding mountains and is surrounded by glaciers. It was certainly a magical place.
Yesterday we left the Banff area and headed North, through Banff and into Jasper National Park. We passed the Columbia Icefield and got to walk on Athabasca Glacier. We’re in the town of Jasper now. We’re heading through Jasper and Yoho National Parks on our way back down to Glacier to hang out with our friend John in time for the weekend. We’re making new friends and seeing some beautiful canyons, waterfalls, mountains, and glaciers along the way. It’s been an adventure, that’s for sure (more on that later). Stay tuned for pictures & more stories when we get a chance to use the internet without being charged an arm & a leg!
